Etsy is seeking an Engineering Manager to establish and lead a new machine learning team that is improving the buying experience on our marketplace. You'll help deliver robust, scalable production models that will be A/B tested live on Etsy.com. Staying at the forefront of the ML field, you’ll bring its best ideas to life for millions of Etsy shoppers. Your team will test new ideas, and pioneer solutions from the ground up, being responsible for the end-to-end ML lifecycle.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering within the Growth Engineering team. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Here’s a glimpse of the problems you’ll help solve:
Leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate concise, insightful summaries of product reviews, allowing shoppers to quickly grasp key information and make confident purchase decisions.
Develop machine learning models to personalize the buyer's browsing experience, highlighting products and information most relevant to their individual shopping mission and preferences.
Apply machine learning to identify optimal moments and methods for engaging buyers, tailoring their journey to inspire confidence and increase the likelihood of a successful purchase.
Implement machine learning systems to analyze buyer behavior and feedback, enabling continuous improvement of the Etsy platform and ensuring a delightful shopping experience for millions.
Leverage existing ML infrastructure and partnerships with platform teams to build scalable and modular ML systems across our mobile app and web platforms.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Help to build a new ML team within the context of product engineering, establishing effective process that increases collaboration across disciplines
Lead a fast paced, data-driven, and agile team of 4-7 machine learning scientists and engineers to build systems that measurably improve the buying experience in close partnership with product teams.
Take part in the end-to-end recruiting process, hiring and on-boarding exceptional engineering talent.
Serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate for the engineers on your team.
Work with other leaders within engineering to develop and evolve engineering processes and standard methodologies.
