Nurse Manager - Float Pool Nursing Support

Seeking a Nurse Manager of Operations to lead a diverse group of nursing support role teammates within the Duke University Health System Float Pool. 

This team provides patient care attendant coverage for patients of all ages and diagnosis in a variety of care settings throughout the Triangle area of DUHS hospitals.  You will have the opportunity to collaborate with leaders across the organization to coordinate optimal staffing, provide team member support, assist with care planning, and provide coaching and mentoring to your team. 

 

General Description

Responsible for directing, coordinating all nursing support role care of Float Pool team members on a 24-hour basis, ensuring care is based on established standards of care. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. The Nurse Manager assists the Clinical Operations Director with clinical, financial, and personnel management.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Participate in the development of the Float Pool’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Actively support and promote a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in the development of clinical standards that is collaborative, collegial, and utilizes current trends and data in professional practice (clinical and administrative). Openly support and consistently communicate the missions of the unit/department and the organization. Serve as the collective voice for Float Pool staff to communicate with administration. Serve as the staff and patient advocate to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Provide frequent rounding on team members throughout all assigned care areas.  Observe the care setting and collaborate with local leaders to partner in care planning and support team members in their care delivery.  
  • Interface with nursing unit leaders to ensure that care is consistent with their expectations. Ensure active use of the nursing process for patients from pre-admission/admission to discharge and beyond (based on the clinical setting). Serve as a professional role model and mentor to staff by responding positively to change while supporting colleagues through the change process. Serve as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition that supports the mission of the organization.
  • Ensure a team-based workforce that is diverse and cognizant of the value diversity brings to the workplace.
  • Assure coordination/participation of team-based staff in department and organization of wide councils/committees. Manage, supervise, and coordinate delivery of patient care for assigned patient care area on a 24-hour basis. Ensure compliance with clinical patient care standards and established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clinical competencies for assigned clinical areas and provide bedside care as needed. Assess/coach and evaluate staff level of practice. Develop programs that foster continued clinical development from novice to expert to positively impact patient care and career satisfaction.
