About the role

Provide complex technical lab support by performing a broad range of complex laboratory and research related tasks for a program and/or facility.

Develop and maintain complex laboratory records.

Conduct moderately complex technical research.

Prepare moderately complex stains, media, buffers, and reagents.

Prepare and maintain non-routine tissue and cell cultures for experimentation.

Perform a variety of moderately complex cell / tissue assays, culture preparation, and / or analyses.

Manipulate, compute, and analyze data using complex statistical computer software.

Perform a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency including operating and / or maintaining lab equipment.

Provide and recommend care for research specimen and/or samples.

Troubleshoot equipment problems and recommend necessary repairs.

Build, modify, test, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions or repair equipment/apparatus or systems of considerable complexity.

Ensure all laboratory protocols and procedures adhere to disease control, radiation, and chemical safety requirements.

May ensure and/or prepare and label laboratory waste for disposal per protocols.

Contribute data and fact finding for inclusion to research reports / article for publication; may write and/or present report summary as requested.

Assist in evaluating nonstandard techniques and procedures based on established objectives; recommend modifications.

Set up complex equipment and materials for course and workshop instruction and provide training for laboratory techniques, instruments, methods and procedures.

Assist in scheduling, designing, and developing experiments and research projects; develop new experimental protocols as assigned.

Ensure the proper ordering of the inventory and supplies.

May act as team lead and oversee daily workloads.

   

Technician IV – Department of Neurobiology and Behavior

Position Summary

The position is located within the department of Neurobiology and Behavior and the duties may include the following:

  • Manipulate, compute, and analyze data using complex statistical computer software.

This is a full-time position at 97.50% FTE. This is a one-year term appointment that is contingent upon available work, funding, and performance.

The Technician IV will work in the Portugues lab, focusing on sensorimotor control in larval zebrafish, assisting with set-up in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior.  While position duties may vary, they may also include the following:

  • General setting up of the laboratory space.

  • Setting up of experimental rigs (behavior, microscopy, and electrophysiology).

  • Care of fish lines: inventorying transgenic lines that are imported and ensuring their successful transition into the local facility.
