Subject Matter Expert – UAS Support Equipment and Product Support Management

About the role

Overview

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide high-level expertise in support equipment planning and product support management for the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) lifecycle. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in engineering, technical, or business management, and a deep understanding of UAS systems and their operational sustainment. ​ The SME will collaborate with government stakeholders and cross-functional teams to develop strategies, analyze requirements, and implement solutions that optimize equipment support and lifecycle management for UAS systems. ​

Responsibilities

Support Equipment:

  • Equipment Planning and Documentation: Identify, plan, and develop documentation to resource and acquire support equipment, including common, mobile, fixed, and specialized equipment required to sustain UAS operations and maintenance throughout the lifecycle. ​
  • Validation and Verification: Participate in activities such as Support Equipment Requirements Document (SERD) reviews, design reviews, logistics demonstrations, and testing to ensure equipment readiness and compliance. ​
  • Standardization and Optimization: Analyze and assess support equipment requirements to reduce and eliminate unnecessary tools and support, implement standardization, and determine sustainment requirements for equipment throughout the UAS lifecycle. ​
  • Fielding Support Equipment: Plan and identify requirements necessary for fielding support equipment to the Warfighter. ​

Product Support Management:

  • Product Support Strategies: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive product support strategies for UAS systems, ensuring alignment with operational goals and cost-effectiveness. ​
  • Predictive Analysis and Modeling: Use predictive analyses and modeling tools to develop courses of action (COAs) for improving material availability, reliability, operational availability rates, and reducing operation and sustainment costs. ​
  • Cost Analysis: Conduct cost-benefit analyses and validate product support strategies, including life-cycle cost estimates and business case analyses (BCAs). ​
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze logistics information to adjust performance requirements and resource allocations across product support integrators and providers to optimize UAS product support strategies. ​
  • Documentation Development: Develop and maintain logistics-related statutory and regulatory program documentation, including LCSP, Core Logistics Determination Estimate, Independent Logistics Assessment, and Preservation and Storage of Unique Tooling Plan. ​

Qualifications

Required:

 

  • Education:
    • Advanced degree (Master or Doctorate) in a technical, business, or management area; OR
    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 12 years of experience in support equipment planning, product support management, and lifecycle sustainment for complex systems.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in predictive analysis, modeling tools, and cost-benefit analysis. ​
    • Strong knowledge of logistics systems, equipment sustainment, and lifecycle management. ​
  • Security Clearance:
    • Active SECRET clearance required. ​

Work Location:

  • Primary: Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. ​
  • Secondary: Authorized virtual work location per customer Telework Policy. ​ Temporary Duty (TDY) may be required at other locations. ​

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment. ​
  • Knowledge of Federal, DoD, and Army regulations related to logistics and product support management. ​
