SUMMARY:
This role supports the organization’s safety and compliance efforts by helping ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. The position assists with risk assessments, accident and near-miss investigations, safety training, and job hazard analyses while working closely with supervisors, safety committees, and employees. Responsibilities also include supporting emergency response efforts, evaluating safety equipment and PPE, conducting inspections and ergonomic assessments, and staying current on evolving safety standards and best practices to maintain a safe, compliant workplace.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local legislation and health and safety codes.
- Assessing risk potential across the organization and ensuring proper signage, guarding, and protection measures are in place.
- Support and assist in conducting accident investigations.
- Assist with job hazard analysis and ergonomic assessments.
- Assist with and conduct PIT Training, evaluations, and inspections. Includes necessary trainer qualifications.
- Participating in or assisting Safety Committee members, supervisors, and/or generals, including safety walks and SORs.
- Assisting with compliance training for all employees and ensuring delivery to keep the facility compliant.
- Working with others to evaluate new safety equipment and management of necessary PPE.
- Responding and providing assistance to all emergency situations.
- Keeping up-to-date on new safety methods and procedures to applicable codes and regulations.
- Assist with investigation for Near Miss and Accidents.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
1 year of experience (including internships), preferably in the meat industry. Experience as a safety program participant is a plus but not required. A four-year degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field is a plus. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
Member of HazMat Team and Confined Space Rescue Team.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate and assist with Safety policies and programs.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Basic math skills.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to handle tough situations with ease and influence.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work various shifts to meet the needs of the business. Participate as a member of the Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Response Team. Demonstrate proficiency in software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Make multiple visits all production areas of the plant.
