The G52/G53/G54 Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) provides top-quality patient care to patients with acute perioperative management needs or with acute post-operative complications. As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers with providing exceptional care to patients from initial introduction to discharge. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare education as needed. A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation from 7:00 a.m. -- 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. -- 7:30 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will: 

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.  
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.  
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).  
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.  
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.  
  • Document in patients’ medical records.  
  • Delegate responsibilities to staff based on patient needs and staff competencies. 
  • Educate patients and families on medications, treatments and care plans. 
  • Analyze data for root cause analysis utilizing standard PI tools. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing   
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)   
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 
  • One year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience 
  • New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)  
  • Clinical ICU rotation
