The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Mission Systems team in Berkeley, MO is looking for a Network Systems Architect Engineer to develop system, hardware, and software requirements, architectures, specifications, and designs for internal teams and external suppliers.  The Network Systems Architect Engineer is responsible for designing and managing onboard avionics networks, off-board communication, LRU (Line Replaceable Unit) data load, file storage, and third party developed software, as well as a host of additional features required to keep the Mission Systems suite running smoothly. Network Systems Architect Engineer will work in multi-disciplinary teams with Software Engineers, Testers, business leaders, and government customers to design and build new onboard network system features.

The Mission Systems team uses a number of technologies and needs Network Systems Architect Engineer with a wide variety of System Engineering skills.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Experienced and Senior Level Network Systems Architect Engineer.

A successful candidate may have experience in the following areas:

  • Experience with testing and validation to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Experience with airplane communication protocols

  • Must possess good organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with COMSEC equipment

  • Deep knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols

  • Experience with Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) data routing protocol

  • Familiarity with the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN)

  • Experience with tactical datalink hardware and protocols for both LOS and BLOS links

  • experience working multi system integrations

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers to develop and document system requirements that define and integrate airborne hardware and software for Air Dominance applications.

  • Coordinate work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs, and interface specifications.

  • Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection.

  • Support development of test and validation procedures to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.

  • Implement, troubleshoot, and maintain external mission critical DISA, SDN, and various other communication circuit endpoint hardware.

  • Comply with cybersecurity requirements (RMF) by performing hardening and patching on network infrastructure equipment, STIG implementation and System Security Plan (SSP) documentation updates.

  • Predict and monitor network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made.

  • Validate system requirements and designs through both laboratory and airborne testing.

  • Work with other aircraft systems from initial concept through certification, delivery, and production life to ensure that all platform systems are well integrated.

  • Support issue investigation and problem solving concerning fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • (Level 3) 5+ years of work related experience with a Bachelor’s or 3+ years of work related experience with a Master’s or work related experience with a PhD

  • (Level 4) 9+ years of work related experience with a Bachelor’s or 7+ years of work related experience with a Master’s or 4+ years of work related experience with a PhD

Typical Education/Experience: 

(Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
