  • Operating lab equipment and performing analyses according to the Operation Manuals, SOPs, Best Practices, and training.

  • Performing proteomic sample preparation in support of discovery and translational studies, including:

    • Protein extraction and lysis, reduction and alkylation, and enzymatic (e.g., tryptic) digestion.

    • Peptide cleanup and desalting (S-Trap, SP3, SPE) and protein/peptide quantification.

    • Preparing buffers, reagents, and stock solutions, and verifying their composition.

    • Preparing samples through LC-MS injection and assisting with data acquisition as instructed.

  • Operating, programming, and maintaining automated liquid-handling and bead-based sample-preparation systems (e.g., KingFisher, Bravo) to support reproducible, plate-based, high-throughput proteomic processing.

  • Recording results accurately in the ELN and contributing to data summaries and study documentation.

  • Notifying the Lab Manager and/or Principal Investigator of any deviations from the study protocol/SOPs/Best Practices or unexpected processes preventing the proper completion of sample processing and documenting as required.

  • Observing deadlines, producing timely results or communicating to management when deadlines cannot be accomplished.

  • Performing assigned general lab tasks, including data logging, routine maintenance of equipment, and general housekeeping.

  • Ordering reagents, parts and/or materials needed for the functioning of the Lab.  Handling, inventorying and managing incoming materials and samples, waste and shipping of samples to outside parties when needed.

Skills and abilities

  • A basic understanding of processes related to Bioanalysis including sample preparation, instrument / equipment operation and data processing and reporting.

  • Experience with analysis of proteins and peptides by mass spectrometry, including protein-specific extraction, separation, and purification methods (e.g., in-solution or on-bead digestion, S-Trap, SP3, and C18/SPE peptide desalting).

  • Experience with, or aptitude to learn, automated sample-preparation platforms, such as the Thermo KingFisher (magnetic bead–based protein/peptide cleanup and SP3) and the Agilent Bravo / AssayMAP (automated liquid handling and cartridge-based peptide desalting).

  • Comfort working with plate-based, high-throughput workflows (e.g., 96-well processing) and large sample cohorts.

  • An attitude for quality, an eye for detail, the ability to follow written instructions and work effectively with management to complete assigned tasks.

  • Documentation discipline and the ability to follow SOPs and written protocols precisely; familiarity with GLP/GMP/GCP principles is a plus.

  • Ability to use a computer and an electronic lab notebook (ELN) to record experimental detail, and to compile and maintain databases for records and inventory, utilizing the appropriate software.

  • A working knowledge and awareness of general laboratory procedures.
