Summary

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Charleston Southern University is seeking a qualified candidate to join the PA faculty team to participate in didactic and clinical instruction, admissions, advising, and assessment within the program. Ideal candidates would have at least 3 years’ experience as a practicing PA/MD/DO and experience in higher education. This is a 12-month, full-time position reporting to the PA program director. 

Work Performed

•    Collaborate with PA faculty in:
o    Providing student instruction in the didactic and clinical phases of the program. 
o    Reviewing and revising the Program’s mission statement, goals, and competencies for the program as necessary. 
o    Evaluating student performance and ensuring the availability of remedial instruction. 
o    Developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating curriculum.
o    Participating in recruiting and selecting applicants for admission to the PA program.
o    Participating in the academic advising of students. 
•    Evaluate the program by participating in the program’s ongoing self-assessment, analysis, and accreditation processes.  
•    Serve on program committees assigned by the program director, such as the Academic and Professionalism Progress Committee, Admissions Committee, Policy Committee, Curriculum Committee, and other ad-hoc committees, as necessary. 
•    Participate in state and national PA organizations as necessary to promote the program and the profession. 
•    Represent the PA program through service on committees at the University level as required.  
•    Pursue faculty development in activities outside the program, such as clinical practice or scholarly activities agreed upon by the Program Director and the individual.  
•    Perform other duties as determined by the Program Director.  
•    Of note, principal faculty must not participate as health care providers for students in the program, except in an emergency. 

Qualifications

•    PA with a master’s degree or higher from an accredited academic institution.  
•    Current certification as a PA-C by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or relevant board certification as a physician.
•    Eligible for medical licensure in the state of South Carolina.
•    Prior teaching experience in a PA program or other healthcare education setting is not required but is preferred.
