The nurse practitioner (NP) is an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team focused on the care of children with early onset seizures and other neurologic disorders. The NP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice/education and provides an environment of safe quality care. The NP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, and timely and compliant documentation. The NP will be part of an interprofessional team and part of a learning environment with trainees from a variety of disciplines.This full-time nurse practitioner will spend all their clinical time in the outpatient pediatric neurology clinic on campus and in outreach locations as needed. The ideal candidate will be experienced at assessing and managing the health care needs of children, adolescents, young adults, and their families with a focus on providing outstanding subspecialty care.

Job responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing medication, health promotion of children, adolescents and young adults with neurologic disorders. The NP will be expected to:
- Provide diagnostic and follow-up services.
- Secure a health history from patient and/or family, records findings, and evaluates them.
- Perform a complete in-depth physical examination. Order/perform pertinent diagnostic tests based on disease, age, history and physical exam findings.
- Analyze data collected to determine health status and identify differential diagnoses based on history, physical exam, and clinical findings.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnoses of acute and complex chronic conditions.
- Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
- Diagnoses complications and orders appropriate interventions.
- Partner with physicians regarding proposed plan of care.
- Refer patients to appropriate specialty services.
- Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers regarding assessments, treatments, and management.
- Documents/dictates key components of patient's progress via, procedural notes and/or clinic notes where applicable.
- Demonstrates Professional Practice behaviors including: preceptor/mentoring, education and instruction of students, nursing staff, nurses, graduate and novice nurse practitioners.
- Seeks opportunities for active engagement in research and the analysis of evidenced based practice.
Minimum job qualifications:
Master's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required)
Registered Nurse (Required)
Licensure and Certification:
Tennessee State Licensure, Advanced Practice Provider
Board Certification as Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner

The Division cares for a large, diverse patient population, and we seek to provide exceptional care for all patients. This position typically operates from 8:00 AM to 5 PM Monday-Friday (with some flexibility of hours to best serve our patients and support clinic efficiency)
