POSITION PURPOSE:
As a Cyber Security Analyst I in Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR), you will be an integral member of our cybersecurity team supporting the DOE Hanford Site. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates or professionals early in their cybersecurity career who are passionate about identifying and responding to cyber threats. You will assist with threat detection, forensic analysis, and incident response activities under the guidance of senior analysts.

As a Cyber Security Analyst I in DFIR, you will gain hands-on experience, mentorship from senior professionals, and a pathway for advancement in a highly impactful field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in monitoring, analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity incidents and alerts.
- Support forensic investigations by collecting and analyzing digital evidence from systems, networks, and applications.
- Help document incidents, root cause analyses, and mitigation actions in accordance with established procedures.
- Contribute to threat intelligence efforts by researching indicators of compromise (IOCs) and emerging threats.
- Participate in vulnerability and risk assessments as needed.
- Support audits, incident exercises, and incident post-mortem documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality and chain of custody for all forensic artifacts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Assurance, Digital Forensics, or a related field.
- 0 to 2 years of relevant cybersecurity experience (internships and academic projects may be considered).
Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, digital forensics, and incident response concepts.
- Exposure to forensic tools and security monitoring platforms (e.g., Splunk, SOAR, EDR, Wireshark, EnCase, FTK, or similar).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.
Special Requirements:
- Must pass pre-employment background check.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience in U.S. Department of Energy cybersecurity operations, digital forensics, and incident response.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is primarily sedentary in nature. The work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. The work may involve exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Can work in a typical office or work-from-home environment (WFH). The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet.
