About the role
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
Key job responsibilities
This is an electrical/control systems position focusing on developing battery models and state estimation algorithms for the project Kuiper satellite. In this role, you will build real-time and offline algorithms that estimate the state of charge and state of health of a battery and can be deployed on embedded or cloud platforms. You will be responsible for overall algorithm design and test verification. You will work with large quantity of sensor datasets to evaluate health of battery over life and track accuracy of models and performance of system to vehicle requirements.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $103,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or software engineering
- 5+ years of experience in simulation, modelling, and state estimation for battery packs
- 2+ years experience and working knowledge of Matlab or Python to extract, process, and store information from large datasets
Preferred Qualifications
- Battery management system design experience in the area of charging, state estimation, and protection for electric vehicle, drones, satellite, or launch vehicles
- Experience developing models for battery systems
- Experience driving requirements for power/battery algorithm design and software implementation
- Experience creating and maintaining complicated simulations and managing large data sets
- Excellent skill at organizing data and communicating key requirements to teammates
- Cross-organizational communication – comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms
