About the role

Unit Paid Faculty teach additional courses on an as needed basis

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) seeks applicants to fill a tenure-ineligible part-time, limited term instructor position for the Procurement and Contracts Management Graduate Certificate Program. An opening exists for the summer 2024 term.

SCPS employs academic faculty who have applicable content expertise at the appropriate level and who provide evidence of recent and/or current professional experience which applies to students’ achieving the goals and learning outcomes of the program. Course area needs include, but are not limited to:

  • PC 5010 Procurement Policy and Practices

The program and course descriptions are available at the UVA SCPS Procurement and Contracts Management program page. 

Courses run in the fall, spring, and summer academic semesters. Courses are typically 15 weeks in length in fall and spring, and 12 weeks in summer terms. Courses are offered in an online asynchronous format. This means there are no required weekly class meeting times, however instructors routinely hold optional live sessions. Class size averages range from 15-20 students. This is a continuing education program that predominantly serves working adult learners.

Syllabi for all courses exist. Instructors will be able to adapt syllabi based on their preference and expertise, provided the current learning outcomes remain the objective. Live class meetings are in the evenings, and the weekday and time may be negotiated.

Qualifications: This position is for graduate-level instruction. A Ph.D. or terminal degree in the subject area or closely related field is preferred; a master’s degree in the subject area or closely related field may be considered; relevant expertise is required.

Two to four years relevant subject matter teaching experience is preferred, as well as extensive industry experience. Online teaching experience and familiarity with the use of technology in teaching, experience working with adult learners, and strong written and oral communication skills are highly desirable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Ph.D. or terminal degree in the teaching area or closely related field is preferred; a master’s degree in the teaching area or closely related field will also be considered.

Experience: Relevant subject-matter expertise is required. Teaching – especially online – is preferred. 
Licensure: Applicants are expected to hold an active CPA license.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
