Job Description

Engaging service, delicious cuisine and distinctive surroundings make every special event a truly memorable affair. Showcase your service and organization strengths as Banquet Captain, where your attention to detail, safety and quality will help “set the stage” for a successful group function.

Hourly Rate: $18.03

What you will be doing:

  • Oversee the set-up and breakdown of function rooms
  • Check service stations for necessary equipment and set up: food, beverages, ice, dishes, and utensils; replenish as needed
  • Provide any service required by the guests on the banquet floor
  • Provide support for banquet servers during events
  • Ensure that overall cleanliness and maintenance of our banquet venues exceeds expectations
  • Assist guest regarding menu items in an informative and helpful way
  • Have full knowledge of all menu items, garnishes, contents and preparation methods
  • Act as a liaison between the Kitchen and the floor.
  • Assume responsibility of the function in the absence of the Banquet Manager.
  • Assist with Payroll and Scheduling responsibilities as assigned.
  • Effectively manage, lead and supervise the banquet team.
  • Ensure the delivery of excellent service by maintaining high staff morale and team spirit.
  • Motivate, lead, coach and monitor the performance of the Banquet team members.
  • Assist Banquet Manager with performance reviews for Banquet team members as assigned.
  • Clear and reset tables in a timely manner while adhering to the State of Hawaii & EHC (Environmental Health Consultancy) food handling safety standards
  • Maintain proper usage of cleaning supplies and equipment; report any malfunctioning equipment
  • Maintain atmosphere of aloha spirit by providing engaging, personalized, timely, and efficient service to our discerning guests
  • Focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Schedule:  Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees are required to work varying schedules, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate the business and demands of the hotel. 

Qualifications

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process
  • Must be service oriented and capable of communicating effectively with persons involved in all levels of authority, both internally and externally
  • Must possess basic computational ability
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail functions
  • Must have extensive beverage knowledge (wines, liquor, beer and classic cocktails)
  • Must be able to multi-task, be organized and be detail-oriented in a fast paced, high volume environment
  • Must have ability to work independently and to prioritize or seek clarification in prioritizing work assignments
  • Must possess superior guest service skills be a strong team player
  • Maintain a professional working environment and attitude

Education:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) and/or vocational training

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of Banquet experience in a high volume operation 
  • Previous experience in luxury hotel environment desirable

Licenses or Certificates:           

  • TB Clearance required
  • Maui County Liquor card required
  • Food Safety Certificat
