The Department of Economic Development (DED) assists businesses and community development organizations and is currently searching for an Accountant 1. This position reports to the Budget Officer and is responsible for participating in the payment process for all funds. There is a great opportunity for advancement for the right candidate.

Job Duties:  Reviews vouchers, billings, grant applications and/or awards, and aid contracts for payment distribution. Prepares various monthly and annual reports evaluating expenses paid, tracking monthly receipts, and entering account payable transactions into the state accounting system. Processes payments and verifies that all supporting documentation is included. Reviews records for reconciliation of Enterprise One and other systems. Other duties as assigned within the scope of classification.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data.

Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel and willingness to learn other computerized systems. The ability to analyze financial data and program details and file and maintain accounting records and gather and compile information into spreadsheet form. Excellent communication skills to work with internal agency staff members and external consumers. Great attention to detail and willingness to learn state and DED processes.
