Utility Worker II (Dam Maintenance)

 

The starting pay rate for this position is $28.42 followed by an increase to $29.84 after probation (six months).

Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a Utility Worker II to support our Raw Water Operations team by helping to maintain over 25 Dams annually by removing vegetation, performing erosion control, rodent control, and removing debris to improve the reliability and safety of our infrastructure and water transmission system. You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of beautiful, remote locations around the Colorado Springs area while performing skilled labor to maintain our dams. This job will require working overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour callout based on business needs. 

What Will You be Doing?

  • Removing vegetation growth and debris from dams
  • Operating weed eaters and mowers
  • Troubleshooting a variety of groundskeeping equipment
  • Meeting dam inspection schedules and criteria
  • Performing erosion and rodent control

 

Who You Are

  • Demonstrated experience in a groundskeeping, construction, or other manual labor-type environment is valued
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., time entry, email communication, Microsoft Teams)
  • Ability to use hand tools and operate specialized equipment and vehicles
  • Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate, and commitment to performing work safely

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Exerts in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work. 
  • Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
