About the Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine is home to 20 categorical residents per year, which includes a Primary Care Track and a Distinctions Track in Care Transformation, plus 5 preliminary interns in Medicine. Dell Seton Medical Center (DSMC) is a 220-bed, safety net, Level 1 Trauma Center, and serves as the inpatient training facility for this program. In September 2021, Dell Med’s IM program deployed a resident staffed team to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA) Hospital. SMCA is a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Center. SMCA also has a Level IV Trama Center.

About the Pulmonology & Critical Care Division

The Division of Pulmonology & Critical Care at Dell Medical School’s Department of Internal Medicine is dedicated to delivering exceptional clinical care while advancing pulmonology and critical care medicine through collaborative research and the training of future physician leaders.

Our division has over 20 faculty members with subspecialties in interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, sleep medicine, sarcoidosis, and cough. There is also an interventional pulmonary program. The division works to advance the field of Pulmonology & Critical Care through collaborative research and training of new physician leaders. 

There is a 3-year pulmonology and critical care fellowship program with a total of nine fellows in training. Housed within the Department of Internal Medicine, the division of Pulmonology & Critical Care works in collaboration with many specialties to ensure the highest quality of care for patients. The division is committed to meeting the expanding clinical needs of the central Texas region and providing the highest quality of patient centered care to our patients.

Building a robust pulmonary and critical care presence and infrastructure for care delivery, education, and research is crucial to achieving the goals of Dell Medical School.

About The Division Chief for Pulmonology & Critical Care Position

The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional Pulmonology & Critical Care leader to join the Department of Medicine as the Division Chief for Pulmonology & Critical Care. Successful applicants will be eligible for appointment at the Associate or Professor level, tenure track and should have significant expertise in medical education, clinical program development, and scholarship. Applicants must be board-certified in Pulmonology & Critical Care Medicine.

The Division Chief will collaborate with key internal and external partners and report to the Chair of Internal Medicine. They will be responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and improving all aspects of the pulmonology and critical care medicine experience. Additionally, the Chief will work with the Associate Chairs and Department Director on initiatives related to our clinical, educational, research, and faculty development missions.
