Job Description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in mathematics with an emphasis on both teaching and research in the area of combinatorics for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The person filling the position is expected to be able to teach a wide range of graduate and undergraduate level mathematics courses, contribute to scholarly activities in the department, engage in research activities involving undergraduate and graduate students, and to engage in professional service.

  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.

  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement)

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD Degree in mathematics with an emphasis in combinatorics, conferred on an official transcript by August 7, 2025.

  • Demonstrated experience to teach college level mathematics

  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens, including social justice and/or anti-racism, to the role.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to pursue a research program in combinatorics, discrete mathematics, and strongly related areas.

  • Ability to teach a wide range of courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels, particularly those relating to discrete mathematics and abstract algebra.

  • Demonstrated preparation to teach, advise, and support a diverse population of students.

  • Experience or strong interest in mentoring graduate and undergraduate student research or creative projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach using technology in the classroom and/or online course delivery.

  • Record of contribution to successful student growth and development.

  • Record of successful workplace collaboration at departmental, college, or university levels.

  • Demonstrated commitment to department activities and service to the discipline at local, state or national levels.
