Job Specific Working Conditions:

Job Summary:

Young Life is a mission devoted to introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. The Direct Ministry Leader will engage in relational outreach, walking alongside middle school or high school students in their daily lives, sharing the Gospel through presence, trust, and community. This part-time role (approx. 5 hours/week) is ideal for someone passionate about Jesus, youth ministry, and intentional relational discipleship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relational Outreach (Contact Work) – ~2 hrs/week
    • Intentionally spend time with students where they are (e.g., school events, sports games, lunchrooms, neighborhoods).
    • Build authentic relationships that open doors to share the Gospel.
  • Leadership at Club – ~1 hrs/week
    • Attend and help lead weekly Young Life Club or WyldLife Club.
    • Assist with set-up, games, music, talks, and follow-up as needed.
  • Discipleship – ~1 hr/week
    • Lead or support a Campaigners group (student Bible study/small group).
    • Meet with students for one-on-one mentorship and spiritual growth.
  • Team & Personal Growth – ~1 hrs/week
    • Participate in regular leader team meetings (monthly or biweekly).
    • Commit to personal spiritual growth through prayer, scripture, and accountability.
    • Meet with Young Life staff person for training, guidance and direction

Qualifications:

  • A growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Passion for reaching adolescents with the Gospel.
  • Ability to connect with and relate to teenagers.
  • Willingness to be trained and mentored in Young Life’s mission and methods.
  • Commitment to weekly time investment and relational consistency.
  • Minimum age: 18 (or high school graduate).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous involvement in Young Life (as a student or leader).
  • Experience in youth ministry or discipleship roles.
  • Willingness to attend Young Life area events, training, or camp (when possible).

Time Commitment:

Approx. 5 hours per week, including:

  • Weekly Club and/or Campaigners
  • Contact work
  • Team meetings or training (biweekly/monthly)
  • Optional seasonal events (e.g., camp, fundraisers)

Support and Development:

Young Life leaders are supported through mentoring by staff, access to national training resources, and opportunities to grow in ministry and leadership.

Ministry Functions:
Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.

  • Maintain a genuine and sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word and the disciplines of personal and corporate prayer.
  • Seek out and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community, that lead to a vibrant spiritual life.
  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life, including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and Scripture reading.
  • Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.
  • Meet with your volunteer leaders on a regular basis.
  • Learn principles of leadership and recruitment and training of new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the makeup of the community.
