GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. Position Description
Our Principal Engineer is a lead member of the engineering staff working across the organization to provide a fiction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. The ideal candidate has broad and deep knowledge of emerging technologies to drive business results, enhance our customer’s online experience, impact bottom-line operations and deliver award-winning apps to the App Store.
Position Responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer, you will:
- Focus on multiple areas and provide leadership to the engineering teams
- Demonstrate full life cycle experience analyzing, developing, and maintaining applications in a dynamic environment
- Influence and build vision with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems for building enterprise-class business applications
- Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions
- Lead in design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization
- Utilize programming languages like JavaScript, TypeScript, Swift, Objective C, Kotlin, Java, C#, Dart, Python, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services
- Mentor more junior team members professionally to help them realize their full potential
- Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
- Collaborate as a team and work independently
Qualifications
- Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, JSX, Swift, Kotlin, Dart, Java, Objective C, C++, Python or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems
- Experience in existing Operational Portals such as Azure DevOps Portal is preferred
- Experience in application monitoring tools and performance assessments: Splunk or Application Insights
- Expertise leveraging performance analysis tools to optimize code toward performance improvements
- Expertise with Swift, Objective-C, and native iOS frameworks
- Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code
- Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)
- Experience in Application Frameworks
- Excellent technical skills to assist in developing iOS apps
- Experience with Gradle
- Experience in Risk assessment
- Strong demonstrated interest in mobile is highly desired
- Strong desire and commitment to learning new technologies quickly
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
Experience
- 6+ years of professional software development experience building native iOS Application
- 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
- 3+ years of experience with architecture and design
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
- 1+ years of people management experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
Annual Salary
$90,000.00 - $204,500.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
