Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Johnson-Sauk Trail State Park for The Office of Land Management. This position will operate trucks, tractors, bushhogs, riding mowers, chainsaws, hand tools, and weed eaters; make repairs and perform preventative maintenance to plumbing, hvac, air conditioning, and electrical systems; sell camping permits and collects fees; operate hunter check stations and register hunters; catch and release pheasants and patrol hunting areas.  From cross-country skiing in the winter to a lazy picnic in the summer, from a fishing trip in the spring to exploring fields of wildflowers amidst the fall colors of the giant oaks, Johnson-Sauk Trail State Recreation Area truly is a park for all seasons.  Located on a glacial moraine that forms the beautiful, rolling hills of Henry County in north-central Illinois, the park sits astride a trail that led Native Americans from Lake Michigan to the confluence of the Mississippi and Rock rivers.  We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today. 

Essential Functions

  • Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and routine tasks in the operation, maintenance, and improvement of grounds and facilities at Johnson Sauk Trail State Park and Mineral Marsh Natural Area. 
  • Maintains systems, site vehicles and equipment. 
  • Performs routine tasks related to recreational outdoor programs. 
  • Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public. 
  • Provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees, volunteers, and other staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
