About the role

The GREET AI pipeline, developed at Argonne to support the GREET (Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Technologies at greet.anl.gov) model, automates the discovery, download, normalization, deduplication, and extraction of structured Life-Cycle Inventory (LCI) data from scientific literature. As this pipeline matures, balancing reliability and data extraction capability is crucial. Without a holistic view of the system's weaknesses, the improvement process will be difficult. Concurrently, an initial standalone AI-assisted harmonization service running on an Argonne server has been developed. It aligns U.S. Federal LCA Commons flows with the GREET database to assist users when importing datasets into R&D GREET software. This service currently utilizes proprietary LLMs. Two primary objectives are prioritized for this period: (1) a comprehensive error analysis to identify and resolve primary bottlenecks in the GREET AI pipeline, and (2) the enhancement of the semantic flow alignment service, including the exploration of open-source LLMs to reduce operational costs and make this functionality available to R&D GREET users.

Education and Experience Requirements

The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States.
Applicants must be:

‒ Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution.

‒ Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or

‒ Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.

Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test
Must complete a satisfactory background check

The expected hiring range for this position is $26.96-$40.44.
