What you will be doing:
This position leads the Research and Technology Transfer section, helping DOT&PF move promising ideas from research into practical tools, processes, training, and programs that benefit Alaska’s transportation system. The incumbent will guide research, innovation, and technology transfer efforts that support safe, efficient, and resilient transportation systems. You will work with department leadership, technical experts, universities, federal partners, local agencies, and industry groups to identify research needs, test new approaches, and share successful practices across the department and transportation community.
In this role, you will:
Lead research and pilot programs focused on improving the safety, sustainability, resiliency, and performance of Alaska’s transportation systems.
Help advance emerging tools and technologies, including drones, AI-supported asset collection, bridge and infrastructure analysis, data systems, and other transportation solutions.
Use research, data, and technology to support better decisions, improve operations, and inform policy and program development.
Build partnerships with internal teams, universities, federal agencies, local governments, industry experts, and other transportation organizations.
Promote the transfer of knowledge from research into practice through training, technical assistance, communication, and workforce development.
Support and mentor staff while encouraging curiosity, problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
