About this role
The Controls Engineering Supervisor is a team leader of a selected number of Controls Engineers. Their primary responsibility is managing and training of their direct employees, and verification of their work. They will be responsible for the mentoring of new hires as well as current Engineering staff. Participating in regular manpower meetings with Engineering Manager to distribute workload and discuss backlog and plan for future department needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design of complete building automation systems including the specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
- Creation, where necessary, of sequences of operation for the control of all building systems.
- Documentation of the BAS design (i.e. submittals) and revision control of the resultant documents.
- Site-specific configuration of the WebCTRL system (using SiteBuilder).
- Programming of control algorithms including those that include third-party integration (using Eikon).
- Development of graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems (using Eikon and ViewBuilder).
- Testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment.
- Functional testing (commissioning) of complex building systems such as chiller plants and large integrations.
- Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
- Adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
- Technical support during the selling process to ensure that sales representatives accurately address customer requirements and propose the best possible solutions.
- Mentorship and development of other Controls Engineers.
- Preform software and hardware quality control (QA/QC) reviews for all direct reports.
- Ensure deliverable dates from Project Managers are coordinated with Engineers and milestones are put in place to be sure to meet these requirements.
- Lead, document, and participate in yearly and semiyearly performance reviews for all your Engineers.
- Clear communication and proactive expectation setting with manager and project teams both internal and external.
- Maintenance and advisement of customer and company design and programming standards including parts and practices.
- Adherence to safety standards. High regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
- Interviewing potential candidates for open Engineering positions.
- Adherence to ethics standards. Exemplifies the Carrier code of ethics.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years of experience in the HVAC Controls industry
- 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Visio (other CAD software acceptable).
- 1+ years of experience with BAS software and associated engineering tools
- 1+ years of experience third-party communication protocols used in building automation including BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2, etc. and able to design and troubleshoot integrations with the same.
- Must have an updated Driver’s License
- Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
- Ability to travel up to 10%
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or construction discipline and 5+ years’ experience in the HVAC controls industry.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals, add-ons, and services.
- 3+ years of experience in a people management role including providing direction and guidance to other team members and lead project teams.
- Advanced knowledge of enterprise IP networks, including layout and troubleshoot
