Project Overview 

Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.  

  

A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. This position location is in Ogden, Utah.  

 

Position Summary

This position is for a Senior Piping Designer who will prepare piping layouts & 3D designs associated with DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. The GBSD program is the weapon system replacement for the Minuteman III missile systems. Our team is supporting Northrop Grumman and the USAF’s nuclear deterrence mission to modernize this ground-based leg of the nuclear triad. This position is responsible for direct production of design work by Bechtel as well as for coordinating the scope and integration of work.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Modeling & checking piping in SmartPlant 3D model environment.
  • Modeling of piping, HVAC, and equipment.
  • Preparation of drawings/documents as required and checking of piping isometrics.
  • Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines.
  • Interface with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.
  • Perform coordination review of specifications and other documents prepared by others.
  • Candidate should possess a knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and piping codes.
  • Knowledge & application of International Building Code, ASME B31.3 for piping, plumbing codes, and ASHRAE standards.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design, with 8 years’ experience, or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma and a minimum of 12 years related experience.
  • Level 2: AA/AS degree or certification in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design, with 11 years’ experience, or in lieu of degree, a high school diploma and a minimum of 15 years related experience.
  • Hands-on experience using SmartPlant 3D and knowledge to check piping designs and isometrics.
  • US Citizenship is required (No Green Cards or TN Visas).
