Position Summary

Washington University seeks an advancement professional for the position of Senior Stewardship Officer, Brown School. University Advancement strives to advance the mission of the school by creating a culture of philanthropy among alumni, students, faculty, and friends.

This position requires strong relationship management skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of donor engagement. The Senior Stewardship Officer plays a critical role in ensuring long-term donor satisfaction and maximizing the impact of donor support.

The Philanthropic Strategy team focuses on fostering strong relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners to secure financial support for the university’s strategic priorities. Working directly with WashU's schools and initiatives, Philanthropic Strategy team members help develop fundraising priorities, steward gifts, and develop programs that deepen donor engagement.

The Brown School has a rich tradition of excellence in social work and social policy, where passionate students, innovative faculty, and committed staff collaborate on problem-solving research and advancing interdisciplinary scholarship.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a comprehensive stewardship program encompassing recognition, impact reporting, and donor engagement strategies.

Manage the process for scholarship matching and stewardship:

  • Facilitate gift officer, donor, and student interactions. 
  • Develop student profiles. 
  • Support By Name and By Story type events.
  • Assist school with ARCH-related data needs.

Manage high-level stewardship efforts for key school and unit constituents, ensuring seamless execution and an exceptional donor experience:

  • Support professorship installations and lectures. 
  • Support stewardship programming.
  • Targeted donor messaging and special reports. 
  • Support memorials and other special events.

Coordinate the acknowledgment process with academic leadership as appropriate:

  • High-level acknowledgment work. 
  • Support Dean’s office information needs (ARCH data pulls).

Oversee the creation and delivery of impactful donor impact reports, effectively communicating the outcomes and benefits of donor support:

  • Develop high-level impact reports.
  • Develop support materials and collate information for the donor relations team. 

Other Functions:

  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to the stewardship team, ensuring the effective implementation of stewardship initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the fundraising team to align stewardship efforts with fundraising goals and strategies.
  • Research and stay informed about current trends and best practices in donor stewardship and philanthropy to inform program enhancements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and departments to gather information and project updates for donor communication and stewardship purposes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
