Position Overview:
Reporting to the Program Director, Occupational Therapy Program and Professor of Practice, the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy supports the implementation of program initiatives and daily academic activities. The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy is responsible for teaching courses related to physical disabilities, rehabilitation, and other subjects focused on adults and older adults. This individual provides high-caliber learning experiences, ensures compliance with ACOTE standards, and participates in student mentorship through research and capstone projects.
The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy is expected to contribute to scholarship by developing and implementing research initiatives, disseminating findings through professional presentations and publications, and incorporating evidence-based approaches into teaching. Additionally, this individual engages in service activities by serving on institutional committees, advising students, and participating in professional associations and leadership roles.
The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Occupational Therapy is knowledgeable about curriculum development, accreditation requirements, and student learning outcomes. They take the lead in fostering interprofessional collaboration, supporting clinical and capstone site development, and contributing to program governance.

Education and Experience: A doctoral degree from a United States Department of Education recognized and accredited program along with registration and certification as an occupational therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), must also be a licensed occupational therapist in the state of California with at least two years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist, is required. A post-professional OTD, PhD, ScD, or an EdD degree and previous experience with tertiary teaching and scholarship is preferred.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Teaching (50%)
- Teach courses relating to physical disabilities and rehabilitation, and other adults and older adults related courses.
- Provide active, innovative, and high-caliber learning experiences in relevant areas of expertise.
- Fulfill SHS teaching load requirements.
- Serve as course coordinator or contributing faculty, as assigned.
- Participate in mentorship of student research and capstone projects.
- Ensure compliance with ACOTE standards through course design and assessment.
- Provide documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibility and demonstrate knowledge of the content delivery methods.
- Other duties as assigned.
Scholarship (20%)
- Develop and carry out a scholarship plan supporting OTD program initiatives, student research, or other relevant professional needs.
