What is the position? 
Cognosante is seeking an experienced Sr. Program Director to join our team to lead a large program team in support of the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of delivering high caliber results with high client satisfaction, and is a leader, problem solver, collaborator, and excellent communicator. This role will be responsible for overseeing high-profile development efforts, coordinating with strategic customers and partners, developing program delivery visions, and enacting those visions. You should have demonstrated experience successfully managing large, complex IT solution development program and be well‐versed in a range of technical concepts including solution development life cycle, strategic information planning, Agile/Scrum/Kanban methodology, SAFe, DevSecOps, and business process engineering. The successful candidate must be an effective communicator and collaborator, energetic, intelligent, passionate, and motivated. The role is fast paced on complex, high priority programs requiring both hard and soft skills and focused dedication. It is a remote/telework position.
 
What will I get to do?  
The Sr. Program Director will have authority over a highly visible program, including a very large full lifecycle, Agile implementation and integration effort. You will influence and build strong relationships across multiple teams and with VA. In your role, you will monitor and direct junior to senior team members and work with multiple levels of managers and executives within Cognosante, VA, and our partners. Additionally, you will be responsible for leading growth opportunities and developing proposals for new work within your portfolio. This is a hands-on position. and you will often involve yourself in the day-to-day activities and decision-making processes for the programs in your portfolio.
 
What qualifications do I need? 

  • 10 years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience managing large client engagements, including large system development and maintenance programs at the Department of Veteran Affairs is required

  • 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education

  • Experience with diverse IT projects both large and small

  • Well versed in full systems development life cycle, enterprise wide network engineering, strategic information planning, business process reengineering, structure, and management practices

  • Able to identify and mitigate risks to the program, manage to cost, schedule and performance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a VA NACI clearance

  • PMI PMP Certification or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of hire

  • Candidates that do not meet the required qualifications will not be considered.

 
What additional characteristics will help me thrive?  

  • Experience with government and/or commercial supply chain management

  • Experience managing large client engagements, including large system development and maintenance programs at the VA

  • Experience with government cloud solutions, particularly AWS/VAEC, and experience with cloud migrations

  • Knowledge of Agile and Scaled Agile Framework (
