Job Description:

Manage and direct the regional safety program in a manner that provides a safe environment for all team members. Lead and champion the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) philosophy and culture in a manner that supports senior managements’ commitment that AP will operate in a manner that fosters and supports the IIF initiative. Provide primary safety training leadership, maintain AP’s commitment to safety as the number one priority, and consistently communicate safety issues.

Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for working safely within an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
    • Be a champion to support IIF efforts for working safely and building a culture of care and concern within the organization that reinforces the behavioral aspects of working and living safely.
    • Maintain a relationship with safety to hold responsibility for personal safety, the safety of each person in the company, and the IIF performance of the entire workforce.
    • As a leader, consistently communicate and reinforce the tenets of an IIF workplace. Be willing to discuss a personal commitment and desire for all team members to work safely and attain an IIF workplace.
    • As a leader, ensure that processes and procedures that support an IIF culture are maintained and reviewed for continuous improvement.
  • Manage and direct the region’s safety program in accordance with organization-wide requirements and best practices.
    • Work with the National Safety Committee on identifying, updating, writing, and implementing new safety and health policies to sustain an IIF culture.
    • Oversee and deliver the company-wide safety training program in a manner that exceeds AP and OSHA requirements.
    • Provide safety and health training to all AP management and supervisory personnel.
    • Lead all regional safety team members.
    • Distribute new and updated safety related information and provide training when necessary.
    • Maintain the safety orientation program for all new team members.
  • Actively monitor the region’s safety program and communicate findings to senior management and project team members.
    • Inform senior management on the safety process and results for all current projects.
    • Manage and/or perform safety audits and inspections. Communicate results to project as well as senior leadership; include suggested remedies and adjustments to mitigate or eliminate potential safety incidents.
    • Review and monitor subcontractor safety activities. Report concerns, suggestions, or requirements to the appropriate subcontractor representative. Collaborate with subcontractors to identify alternate means of accomplishing tasks to minimize risk.
    • Work with state and federal agencies on inspections and issues identified, to minimize the future impact on AP.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with federal and/or state OSHA programs.
  • Provide tracking, analysis, and statistical performance for all workers compensation, auto, property, equipment, and general liability claims for the region.
    • Work closely with insurance and legal personnel on all claims and participate in quarterly claims reviews. Attend depositions and provide background for lawsuit claims.
    • Handle worker’s compensation cases and investigate accidents.
    • Ensure that the company-wide Drug and Alcohol Testing policy is applied post-accident and when there is reasonable suspicion.
    • Ensure the fleet safety policy is in place and all individuals subject to the policy are in full compliance with the policy.
  • Collaborate, coach, and mentor all regional team members to foster and support the IIF culture.
