About the role

General Role Summary: The Principal & Chief Medical Officer (CMO), reporting to the CEO, will serve as the firm’s physician leader and a subject matter expert for IPA, ACO, CIN, delegated IPA/CIN/ACO and health plan clinical operations, both client owned and directly aligned, as well as NCQA quality. The CMO will oversee all employed or contracted physicians and advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) across the firm; serve as a key clinical leader and informer for the ongoing development and client success for our Analytics for Risk Contracting (ARC) platform; and will be a key leader for the CHS Medical Group as well as our own planned CHS IPA.  Position Description: The CMO provides the overall medical direction and leadership regarding developing and operationalizing a transformative clinical vision, strategy, and agenda across COPE Health Solutions and all of the CHS Medical Group and future CHS IPA’s diverse provider constituencies. The CMO will drive the advancement of clinical excellence, clinical performance/accountability and clinical alignment of IPA hospitals, outpatient centers, medical, physicians and other employed or contracted staff and providers. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CMO will exhibit, and ensure, all activities reflect and support COPE Health Solutions, CHS Medical Group and future CHS IPA’s mission, vision, values, and strategy. The CMO is the physician diad leader, or accountable for any medical directors assigned to be the diad, with:
  • The Principal and EVP of Medical Management for all Medical Management areas including UM, quality, care management and Medical Economics
    • CMO accountable for outputs from ARC “Clinical Analytics” SME insights solutions
  • The Principal and SVP of CHS Medical Group and eventually CHS IPA
    • The CMO of COPE Health Solutions is also the CMO of CHS Medical Group and eventually CHS IPA
    • Build and lead cross-functional team/pods of providers closely coordinated with the medical management and operations teams
  • The ARC sales/implementation success VP and engineering lead
    • Play a key leadership and expert role on the ARC governing body, bringing to bear expertise in physician alignment, quality, care management, UM and other areas to inform ongoing improvements and new build out of ARC functionalities.
  • The ARC and VBC finance VP leader
All employed and contracted physicians and advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) employed or contracted with COPE Health Solutions, the CHS Medical Group and any future related medical group providers/medical directors and IPA medical directors shall report up to the CMO – with the exception of COPE Health Solutions employed and independent contractor physicians and APPs delivering the COPE Health Solutions APP fellowship solution to outside clients. The CMO is responsible for providing clinical oversight and direction for designing, implementing and supporting clinical activities, quality measurement activities and Value Based Risk Agreements, including but not limited to, MSSP, MDC, Medicaid managed care, Medicare Advantage, Commercial risk arrangements, etc.The CMO will collaborate with other COPE Health Solutions leaders to create and implement value-add VBC products and solutions, built on the foundation of the ARC platform, for hospitals, health plans, IPAs and mid- to large-size physician organizations and FQHCs.   The CMO will also collaborate with other COPE Health Solutions leaders and team members and support relationship building, sales, targeted sales strategies and market research nationally. A typical client engagement might be:
  • The (interim) leader of a co-source MSO, implementing and integrating ARC and our other tools and resources with the clients to best service them for managing at-risk lives across value-based contracts at any and all points along the care delivery continuum.   This may or may not be in dyad partnership with an operations leader, either internal or external.
  • SME support for a client that has purchased or is considering purchasing ARC, potentially with wrap-around solutions such as outsourced med econ support, financial modeling support, care management support or other consulting.
 The CMO role will involve hands-on work with client staff, providers, executives, vendors, and other stakeholders to successfully implement innovative care mode
