A Day in the Life

USC will verify eligibility.As a Software Development Engineer in Test, you will be asked to test the next generation of our product. This is a hands-on role which requires coding. Our product suite spans from medical devices that a patient wears, to mobile apps, up to our back-end servers, so this is a challenging task, and one that requires very critical thinking to ensure the system performs well. The best candidates will be ‘engineers’ – critical thinkers who solve problems efficiently, pragmatically, and continually seek information from all sources.

A Day in the Life
Design, develop, debug, and implement software test frameworks and test scripts across iOS, Android, and Web platforms.
Work closely with software development, product engineering, product marketing, quality, and systems teams to ensure the product works properly from end-to-end, both pre and post-release.
Utilize test automation frameworks, including Appium and Selenium, for continuous build and test with various system tools.
Determine the required level of testing based on software requirements.
Develop test plans and protocols in accordance with regulatory environments.
Partner with software development as part of sprint development within an Agile/Scrum environment.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and automation capabilities.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
To be considered for a Spring 2026 engineering Co-Op position, you must meet the following basic requirements. Your resume must clearly demonstrate how you meet each of these criteria to be considered for a position.
Requires a Baccalaureate Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering, and 0 years of experience required.
The ability to participate part time (20 hours/week) for the Spring semester starting January 2026
Must have current academic standing at USC, and eligibility to enroll in an intern/co-op course.
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis and do not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa. The Medtronic Co-Op Program does not provide work authorization sponsorship. Individuals with temporary visas such as E, F-1, H-1, H-2, L, B, J or TN, or who need sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, are not eligible.
The ability to work on-site at our Northridge, California office.
Nice to Have
1-3 years of experience in software testing or development, with a strong interest in automation.
Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: JavaScript , Python, Java, C, C++ or Go.
Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and lifecycle.
Familiarity with Agile processes and the Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Confluence).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Deep understanding of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, CircleCI) Experience developing automated test tools for commercial software products.
Basic understanding of API testing concepts and tools (e.g., Postman, SoapUI)
Experience coordinating with remote teams.
Experience working in a regulated industry.
Strong attention to detail.
