Position Summary
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. The Patient Safety Officer may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time. Coordinates and provides direct clinical support for the patient safety and the risk management programs. Manages Patient Safety Evaluation System activities, including the management of Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP). Also provides support to the Patient Safety-Risk Management Department overall strategies and operations. Works with Clinical Providers and Leadership to improve processes and reduce frequency and severity of undesirable events or trends in patient care or facility management. The Patient Safety Officer participates in proactive risk assessments based on relevant literature. Recommends preventive and/or remedial solutions to ensure safety and reduce potential hazards to patients, visitors, and staff. Works with the Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety to provide oversight; recommends preventative and/or remedial solutions that will improve safety, reduce hazards, prevent loss, transfer risks, and minimize the chance of harm to patients, visitors, staff, and the organization. Works closely with the leaders, physicians, employees, other key operational stakeholders.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required
· Associate degree in Nursing or clinically related field required
· Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or clinical related field required within 5 years of transfer/hire
· A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience, previous leadership and knowledge of regulatory requirements and/or Risk Management required
· CPHRM (Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager) preferred
