We are seeking a visionary, user-obsessed, and business impact Senior Director of Experience Design to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team of UX, UI, research, content design, and analytics professionals to craft exceptional end-to-end experiences across our digital products and services. You will be responsible for developing and executing a strategic vision that delivers measurable impact to both the customer journey and business goals. This is a high-impact leadership role that sits at the intersection of user needs, design, business strategy, and technological innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a high-performing team of designers, researchers, and strategists.
• Define and drive the long-term vision for customer experience across all digital touchpoints.
• Craft, build, and evolve TEGNA's enterprise design system to support our internal content creators and external users
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Data to shape and execute design strategies.
• Establish and evangelize experience design principles, frameworks, and best practices.
• Oversee the design of cohesive, accessible, and intuitive product experiences.
• Advocate for user-centered design and ensure insights from user research are integrated throughout the product lifecycle.
• Set performance standards, define KPIs, and track design impact on business outcomes.
• Guide organizational transformation toward a design-led culture.
• Represent design at the executive level, influencing product and company strategy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in user experience, product design, or related field, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven success managing multidisciplinary design teams in fast-paced environments.
• Expertise in modern UX/UI design, research methodologies, accessibility standards, and design systems.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating deep understanding of design thinking and user-centered design.
• Experience working in agile, product-driven organizations.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills, especially when influencing executive stakeholders.
