Department Summary

The College of Design (DSGN) is a multidisciplinary academic unit with approximately 100 tenure-related faculty members, 150 non-tenure-related faculty members, 50 staff, and 1,700 student majors in 9 departments and programs (23 degree programs). DSGN has a general fund allocation of $24 million with operations in both Eugene and Portland. Facilities Support Services maintains all College of Design spaces in Eugene as well as provides building access, equipment checkout, and other services for students, faculty, and staff.

Position Summary

As a Trades Maintenance Worker 1, you'll be an integral part of our dedicated team, with opportunities to support the work of our vibrant community of faculty, staff, and students. In this role, you will report directly to the Assistant Dean for Planning and Facilities, and you will be part of a team providing crucial daily support to maintain College of Design spaces, including our woodshops and studios. Major facilities include Lawrence Hall, Pacific Hall, Millrace and Fine Arts Buildings, 942 Olive, Hendricks Hall, Gerlinger Hall, 510 Oak, and other off-campus locations as required.

This position will include regular tasks involving plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems, and requires the ability to proactively identify and address potential issues in coordination with members of the Facilities Support Services team. Additionally, you will contribute to a safety-conscious work environment by being aware of and following safety protocols, procedures, and regulations related to your work.

While you'll collaborate closely with our team, you'll also have the autonomy to tackle tasks independently as you gain experience, employing your expertise to determine the best approaches and materials for each job. Special Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain UO driver’s certification within 90 days of employment and maintain throughout employment with the College of Design.

Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

• 6 months of facilities maintenance experience that included one or more of the following: using basic hand and power tools, performing basic carpentry and painting, and maintaining shop tools and equipment. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in all three areas.
• A minimum of 100 hours of experience using forklift.
