Position Overview
The University of Utah Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine seeks an accomplished academic interventional cardiologist to serve as Chief of the Section of Interventional Cardiology within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, in the Department of Internal Medicine. This is an exceptional opportunity for an innovative and collaborative physician leader to guide one of the nation’s premier academic interventional cardiology programs while advancing excellence in patient care, research, education, and clinical innovation across the University of Utah Health system.
The Section Chief will provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for a nationally recognized program that serves patients throughout Utah and the Intermountain West. As a key member of the Division’s executive leadership team, the Section Chief will work closely with departmental, hospital, and health system leaders to develop and implement a vision for continued growth of coronary, structural heart, peripheral vascular, and advanced cardiovascular intervention programs while promoting outstanding clinical outcomes, scholarly achievement, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The successful candidate will possess an established record of academic accomplishment, visionary leadership, and clinical excellence, with demonstrated success in developing faculty, fostering multidisciplinary programs, advancing research, and building high-performing clinical teams.
The Section of Interventional Cardiology
The Section of Interventional Cardiology is a nationally recognized academic program providing comprehensive, state-of-the-art care across the full spectrum of cardiovascular intervention. Faculty perform advanced coronary intervention, structural heart interventions, peripheral vascular intervention, complex and high-risk PCI, chronic total occlusion intervention, mechanical circulatory support, and catheter-based therapies for acute cardiovascular disease.
The Section is fully integrated within the University of Utah Health Cardiovascular Service Line and partners closely with Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Imaging, Heart Failure, Electrophysiology, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, and referring physicians throughout the Intermountain West. The program serves as a major regional referral center for complex cardiovascular disease and supports a broad portfolio of investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical research, translational science, and innovation.
The Section also plays a central role in the education of cardiovascular disease fellows, interventional cardiology fellows, residents, medical students, and physician-scientists. Faculty are committed to excellence in procedural training, mentorship, simulation-based education, and the development of future leaders in academic cardiovascular medicine.

Clinical Excellence
- Promote exceptional quality, safety, patient-centered care, and clinical outcomes.
- Lead multidisciplinary Heart Team programs across coronary, structural heart, and complex cardiovascular intervention.
- Advance regional STEMI and cardiovascular emergency systems of care.
- Improve patient access, operational efficiency, and value-based care.
Faculty Development
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain outstanding faculty.
