About the Opportunity
This is an open position with the FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
The department is responsible for managing and resolving pre-litigation claims for property damage or personal injury by third parties against the Company. The Claims department works in tandem with the tort litigation attorneys to develop strategy and negotiate settlements to satisfy certain claims. Claims also oversees claims against third parties who damaged company equipment or facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Gather information to determine responsible party(ies) for damage claims, which includes interviewing witnesses, contacting insurance companies and obtaining police and fire reports
- Review claim files to ensure all supportive information is included to pursue collections
- Ability to timely and accurately invoice claims
- Focus on quality follow-up contacts and communications on invoiced claims
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in accurately and timely updating electronic files
- Strong negotiation skills to achieve settlements or payment plans, where appropriate
- Processing settlement payments
- Ability to evaluate uncollected claims and recommend litigation efforts to secure payment
- May attend pre-trials, trials and arbitrations
- May assist with preparation of discovery responses

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Two or four-year degree preferred with a minimum of 0-2 years of work experience. Experience should include customer service and/or basic understanding of account collections
- Proficient in in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Work, PowerPoint),UIS, Accurint and the claims system
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong computer skills and comfort in a paperless environment
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels and with varying backgrounds
