Job Summary:
The Student Assistant – Front Office serves the Housing & Residential Life Office by staffing the front desk during front office business hours and assisting with daily housing services and operations.
About the California State University Maritime Academy:
Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on the scenic Vallejo waterfront, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 50 graduate students.
Cal Maritime offers seven baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, International Strategy and Security, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Transportation, and Oceanography. The undergraduate curriculum includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard, and naval reserve officers. Cal Maritime also offers a Master of Science in Transportation and Engineering Management degree, as well as a number of extended learning programs and courses.
Job Duties:
- Provides telephone and front desk receptions services including answering questions from students, parents, vendors, guests, and university staff members.
- Assists residential students with lockout procedures including documenting lockout charges, encoding PortPasses, and issuing/retrieving spare keys for residential communities.
- Refers concerns & issues regarding students, vendors, guests, and university staff to Housing & Residential Life Professional Staff.
- Responds to emergencies, student requests, and student conduct situations as needed.
- Performs resident check-outs and check-ins procedures including collecting keys, completing appropriate paperwork, and assessing room conditions.
- Performs game equipment checkouts.
- Enters facility work order requests into campus work order management system.
- Distributes campus and event flyers in the residence halls.
- Provides escorting services to campus vendors and custodial team to perform cleaning duties, regular maintenance, and special projects.
- Completes operational daily checklists and other duties assigned by Director and Residential Life Coordinators.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge and familiarity with university housing.
- Has a strong commitment to customer service and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgement.
- Possesses technical skills including the ability to learn and use key card access system and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Be able to work in an office setting using standard office equipment including computer, photocopier, printer, and telephone.
- Be able to lift at least 25 pounds and be able to climb stairs, conduct rounds of buildings, and be able to respond to lockouts and emergencies.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Understands and abide by all residential life and campus policies.
