About the role

Develops and provides orientation training programs, assists in evaluating selected employees, promotes an effective working environment, schedules and assigns work to staff members, and assists the Director in preparing for accrediting agency surveys in an effort toward providing quality health care services. The Manager of Acute Phys Medicine oversees Senior Therapists, Clinical Specialists, Therapists, Assistants, Aides, and Transporters. The Manager assesses patient needs and designs effective treatment programs, ensures the appropriate application of departmental policies and procedures, assists in implementing continuous quality improvement programs, keeps Divisional Director advised of employee concerns, monitors unit payroll, and participates on committees. Other responsibilities include ensuring that work areas are adequately stocked, participating in educational programs, carrying a case load in specialty area, and demonstrating compassion and understanding for the physical and psychological needs relevant to the age of the patient served. 

1.   Leadership

  • a.   Develops and provides orientation training programs for all departmental personnel and documents staff member participation in an effort toward ensuring the provision of high-quality staff development and continuing education services by the department.

2.   Program Management and Daily Operations

  • a.   Promotes an effective working environment by ensuring adequate staffing, schedules, and assigns work to staff members, monitors work quality and quantity, and assists colleagues in an effort toward ensuring efficient departmental operations.
  • b.   Assists the Director in the preparation of performance appraisals, evaluates the performance of selected employees,             and provides feedback to employees in order to ensure adequate communication and understanding and the efficient provision of high-quality health care services.
  • c.   Assists the Director in preparing for accrediting agency surveys (e.g., JCAHO, CARF) and makes recommendations for staff continuing education requirements in an effort to promote departmental efficiency, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and provide quality patient care and health care services.
  • d.   Treats patients from a holistic perspective by assessing patient needs, designing effective treatment programs, and intervening to promote increased independence in daily living skills. Provides compassionate and caring therapy directed toward improving cognitive, psychological, sensorimotor, developmental, and perceptual functioning.
    e.   Carries a case load in specialty area (Speech Pathology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy) as needed in order to maintain efficient operations within the department.
    f.   Ensures that work areas and examination rooms are adequately stocked with equipment and supplies and are properly cleaned and disinfected such that a safe and reliable atmosphere for high quality patient care may be provided.
    g.   Assists the Director with unit payroll toward ensuring information accuracy and promoting efficient departmental management.
    h.   Keeps Director advised of all employee concerns including those leading to disciplinary action.
    i.   Ensures that periodic equipment maintenance is carried out in order to control hospital and departmental costs and ensure the conservation of all hospital resources.

3.   Performance Improvement and Quality

  • a.   Assists in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement programs and participates in multi-disciplinary continuous quality improvement efforts. Assists in ensuring that all services provided by the department are performed with compassion, understanding, and respect for others.
  • b.   Ensures the appropriate application of the hospital's mission and philosophy and departmental and hospital policies and procedures in a manner that promotes the provision of high-quality health care services and departmental effectiveness.
    c.   Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, and training sessions in an effort to share his/her own expertise with others and further the quality of education and personal growth provided to new personnel, volunteers,        and interning students.

4.   Other Duties As Assigned

  • a.   Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
     

Experience
3 years Rehab/Physical Medicine experience in area of specialization


Education
Bachelor's Degree


Licensure
State licensed in Physical Therapy, BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification
