This position is hybrid in nature requiring 2 days/week on-site at a Westinghouse facility in the United States (US) or Madrid, Spain.  We are able to entertain all candidates authorized to work without sponsorship now and in the future as we are unable to sponsor Visa's for this opportunity.

 

Your Day-to-Day:

The AP Technology Deployment portfolio, part of GECS, is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Engineer to lead engineering efforts related to AP300 mechanical electrical piping and instrument (MEPI) modules. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and background of AP1000 technology, module design, and module procurement of new power plants. Furthermore, the candidate will have demonstrated understanding of GESC functional organizational structure and disciplines engaged in AP technology development and deployment (e.g. licensing, civil, mechanical, and electrical design, construction, etc.). Daily activities will involve but not limited to, leading and interacting with teams of engineers assigned to the project by the functional groups, interacting with the ESBU project team, providing status updates, interactions with GSCM and vendors.  This is a Lead & Supervisor opportunity considered a mobile position based in the EU or US.

• Lead the program and design development of mechanical, electrical, piping, and instrumentation (MEPI) modules for the AP300 SMR. Responsible for scope execution of MEPI module design as the MEPI module strategy for the AP300 SMR design program develops over design phases.
• Accountable for leading and interacting with multi-discipline functional group lead engineers globally, and overall program as required.
• Reports to Project Engineering Manager of assigned project or projects. Work is highly independent with demonstrated capability of not only mentoring engineers, but also competence of effectively leading engineers in the execution of a multi-discipline AP300 project.
• Accountabilities typically include setting day-to-day operational objectives for individuals or teams, ensuring that policies, practices, and procedures are in place and followed in addition to oversight of cost and schedule adherence.
• Clear and frequent communication with functional group leads is key for successful execution and oversight of the multidiscipline engineering efforts. Use of scheduling and action items tracking as best practice communication tools is required.
• Effective communication and reporting on key project updates and technical issue resolutions with GECS and ESBU leadership team and upper management.
• Participate or lead internal technical meetings or in presence of customers, such as but not limited to, corrective action meetings, operational experience & lessons learned, technical conferences, etc.
• Proactively drive continuous improvement and recommend design alterations to existing products, services and contribute to development of new methods and processes, as well as their introduction, roll-out and associated change management
• Supports Project Managers in developing resource demand estimates for GECS and ESBU on a monthly basis

 

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of technical leadership experience in Engineering disciplines
• Engineering knowledge of AP1000 plant module design strongly preferred.
• Recognized subject matter expert in one or more engineering specialties and is capable of leading multi-discipline engineering efforts associated with AP300 SMR design & deployment globally.
• Strong organization and communication skills and a proven history of managing and effectively leading multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams and interfacing with multiple functional groups.
• Ability to build strong relationships with Stakeholders to enhance project alignment.
• Willingness and ability to travel as required – expected no more than 20%.
• Ability to get “things done” within Westinghouse through extensive operational and organizational know-how.
