Senior Software Engineer (remote)

About this position:

• This position if fully remote
• 5+ years of experience developing consumer-facing web applications, services, and APIs
• 3+ years of experience of Ruby on Rails
• Bachelors in a technical field
• AWS/Cloud experience and Kubernetes
• Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavioral Driven Development (BDD)
• Relational Database Development with experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar databases
• Experience as a developer and applying Object Oriented Programming (OOP) techniques

This is a fully remote position.

The Federal Civilian business unit supports a wide range of customers that span the federal, commercial, and non-profit space. Our customers include the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, PAN Foundation, Library of Congress, Social Security Administration, Health and Human Services and the USDA US Forest Service. We partner with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset for informed decision-making, modernize legacy systems, and build the digital service infrastructure necessary to scale their mission impact by applying approaches proven in consumer technology.

What you’ll do

Our ideal Senior Back End Software Engineer Back End knows how to build large-scale production systems in modern agile environments. They write well-structured, tested, and secure code with little feedback or guidance. They’ve designed and implemented reliable and maintainable APIs and built services that integrate with external dependencies. They can articulate how the thing they've built fits into a larger ecosystem. They’re not afraid of large, complex problems. They take an active role in planning and delivery efforts, drawing on their experience to suggest better approaches or alternatives. As an Ad Hoc Back End Engineer, you’ll be:

• Shipping software that impacts the lives of millions of people
• Using modern programming languages and frameworks to build scalable services that gracefully integrate with legacy systems
• Building and working with APIs to support both the digital services we deliver as well as third-party usage
• Using unit and integration testing to ensure systems work as intended
• Helping us continuously, iteratively improve
