Job Summary

With approximately 6,000 students, Kilgore College is a student-centered, residential community college, characterized by excellence in teaching and learning. The Dean of Public Services & Industrial Technologies provides academic leadership and administrative support to the division’s faculty and staff. Some of the areas within the PSIT division include Police and Fire Academies, Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive and Diesel Technology, Electrical Power Technology, CDL and others.  Kilgore College is seeking an innovative leader who will work in support of the mission and goals of the College, with an entrepreneurial mindset. The programmatic scope of the division includes educational options from short term certifications to Associate’s Degrees.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provides leadership for employees by exhibiting exemplary work habits, fiscal responsibility and personal professional development.
  • Contributes to the development of institutional goals, policies and direction as related to instruction.
  • Oversees staffing, evaluating, budgeting, course scheduling, and daily functioning of the division.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the faculty and administration.
  • Is responsible for continuous quality improvement and institutional effectiveness of division programs and departments.
  • In conjunction with the Executive Dean of Professional and Career Education, oversee and develop continuing education offerings related to the division.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and other agencies as required.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with business and industry partners, community organizations and educational institutions
  • Proactively promotes innovative partnerships to meet workforce and transfer needs.
  • Travels to various campuses and additional locations to ensure and oversee academic operations and functions.
  • Responds to and resolves academic faculty/student problems and concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree that aligns with an area of the division or Master’s degree with relevant work experience that aligns with an area of the division.
  • A minimum of three (3) years full time teaching in a related discipline or the equivalent part-time teaching in a related discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressive leadership experience in higher education
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must have a broad understanding of academic and workforce education.
  • Be able to work with little supervision and to work professionally and courteously with a diverse student and employee population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Full-time community college teaching experience
  • Experience with continuing education and workforce programs in the state of Texas
  • Demonstrated collaborative efforts between education and/or industry/community entities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • 5 Full-Time Direct Reports      0 Part-Time Direct Reports

Safety:

Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office, classroom and training lab environment.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
