General Summary:

The Assistant Director of Student Activities provides strategic leadership for campus-wide engagement initiatives that foster student connection, leadership development, community engagement, and a sense of belonging. Through innovative programming, leadership education, service opportunities, and assessment practices, this position creates meaningful pathways for students to engage in campus life and enhance their overall student experience.  The Assistant Director advises the Campus Activities Board (CAB), develops and facilitates leadership development initiatives, coordinates community engagement and service opportunities, and collaborates with campus partners to advance institutional goals related to student engagement, belonging, retention, and student success.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts planning, organizing, and executing events on various scales and types (campus traditions, leadership development, community service, etc.).
  • This includes coordinating logistics, managing budgets, securing venues, negotiating contracts, risk management, curriculum, marketing, assessment, and overall smooth event operations.
  • Directly supervises approximately 5 Student Consultants and an additional group of 25-75 students who volunteer in the capacity of planning and facilitating campus events.
  • Create, maintain, and promote programming and activities calendar with special attention to student organization engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with ongoing co-curricular partnerships with academic leaders that result in cross-divisional and cross-institutional student learning outcomes.
  • Engage in marketing and promotional efforts including presentations that promote and encourage student engagement.
  • Conduct assessments to implement best practice methods for event planning, membership development, leadership curriculum, service opportunities, recruitment, budget development and program effectiveness.
  • Handling email communication, phone calls, other inquiries related to student activities, events, leadership development and community service opportunities.
  • Work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or combination of education and experience.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in management of Student Activities programs.
  • Experience planning and facilitating campus-wide events, Homecoming and Welcome Week activities, leadership training, and community service activities.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills, ability to work in a high energy, flexible team environment.
  • Planning large-scale campus events, advising students, collaborating with campus and community partners.
  • Administrative skills, event planning skills, prioritization skills are necessary.
  • Experience with marketing and promotional effort related to growth in student activity participation.
