Tailings and water management has evolved to become one of the central challenges to safe operations, growth, sustainability and eventual closure attracting the attention of Governments, NGOs and investors which requires substantial business attention and funding to satisfy many stakeholders.

The Head, Tailings & Dams will develop and manage an integrated system which supports Newmont’s position as an industry leading performer in Tailings and Dam management through development of a holistic strategy, responsible management practices, robust governance framework, focus on sustainability and eventual safe closure which allow the business to transfer useful lands back to the communities in which we operate.

 

The role reports to the Group Head Tailings, Water, Closure and Legacy emphasizing the integral link between these critical functions across the operations' life cycle.

Your role will consist of

 

Growth Strategy/Governance:    

 

• Support development and delivery of Newmont’s tailings and dams strategy in-line with Corporate safety, sustainability and water management goals.
• Ensure appropriate governance for all Newmont sites, projects and legacy facilities.
• Facilitate ITRBs for each site, including ITRB member selection and succession.
• Provide subject matter expertise to support responsible and effective management of existing, past and future facilities.
• Governance development, syndication and conformance management/leadership.
• Develop strategic concepts and executable solutions to support the assets’ full potential working closely with Mineral Resource Management (MRM) and studies to evaluate holistically.
• Support evaluation of site and enterprise trade-offs related to Water, Tailings and Dams.
• Support and engage with Executive Leadership Team and Board regarding current state, risk management, GISTM.
• Understand and relate technological solutions for assets, projects and closure/legacy.

 

Operational Excellence:

 

• Safe delivery of business plan commitments.
• Active and visible Leadership and Stakeholder Management across all supported sites and projects.
• Work with sites to monitor and support a high level of facility performance, including key operating parameters and trigger action response plans (TARP).
• Coordinate and manage the enterprise GISTM implementation and performance (along with environment and social performance).
• Collaborate with sites, studies and across functions to leverage integration opportunities.

• Ensure Company safety, environment and sustainability policies are implemented in all functional interactions and activities.
• Manage the improvement activities underpinned by thorough understanding of risk and financial impact.
• Technical support for engagement with community and government stakeholders which support social license to operate.
• Monitor performance in order to reduce risk exposure and take improvement activities as appropriate.

• Provide functional leadership and engagement to ensure the current and future Functional Health is robust for all relevant practitioners across the Newmont portfolio.
