Wastewater Enterprise:
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), Wastewater Enterprise (WWE) operates and maintains San Francisco's combined sewer system to protect public health and the environment. These services extend across eight urban watersheds, more than 1,000 miles of pipe, 24 miles of transport and storage facilities and benefit every resident and visitor of San Francisco.
WWE operates three all-weather wastewater treatment plants, one wet-weather facility, 28 pump stations, eight transport/storage facilities, and 34 combined sewer discharge structures to treat an estimated 34.6 billion gallons of wastewater in a typical year.
In addition to treating wastewater, WWE also produces biosolids, a nutrient-rich soil-like product used as a synthetic fertilizer-replacement and soil amendment across the Bay Area.
Job Description
Under the general direction of the SFPUC Assistant General Manager, Wastewater Enterprise (AGM, WWE), the WWE Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and directing the maintenance and repair of all wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and WWE facilities in compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations; performs responsible technical and administrative work in connection therewith; handles planning, trouble shooting, and policymaking for the Maintenance Division, and performs related duties as required.
The WWE Maintenance Division consists of approximately 160 employees, and is comprised of the following sections: Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical Maintenance (including Welding, Hydraulics and Machine Shop) Maintenance Planning & Reliability, Facilities and Emergency Response (including Plumbers, Painters, Carpenters, Laborers, Gardeners, HVAC, Fleet Services, Southeast Community Center Facility Management, and Co-generation Engine crew), and Materials Coordination (including Purchasing, Accounting, and Warehouse).
Essential functions of this position include:
- Organizes, plans, manages, and directs the activities of the WWE Maintenance Division, including supervising and coaching direct reports and other subordinates in the following sections: Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical Maintenance (including Welding, Hydraulics and Machine Shop) Maintenance Planning & Reliability, Facilities and Emergency Response (including Plumbers, Painters, Carpenters, Laborers, Gardeners, HVAC, Fleet Services, Southeast Community Center Facility Management, and Co-generation Engine crew), Materials Coordination (including Purchasing, Accounting, and Warehouse), and related functional work groups as needed.
- Develops and implements Maintenance Division goals, objectives, policies, and priorities, and determines appropriate levels of service and allocation of resources to achieve timely and measurable outcomes within budgets; adjusts plans and programs as needed to meet emerging requirements.
- Promotes safe work practices and ensures that staff adhere to all safety practices, policies, and regulations, including all applicable SFPUC and Cal-OSHA policies and regulations.
