We are looking to hire a a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. We are building the Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3). We power Microsoft’s first-party real-time conversation products, notably Skype and Teams with many millions of users, by providing reliable and high-quality audio and video calling, meetings, and chat services that work every time, from anywhere, on any device. And we expose our core capabilities to third-party partners, with which they can bring conversations to life in their own products. With IC3, we will enable customers to do more by making conversations on our platform more intelligent, surfacing useful information in real-time and taking actions on the customers’ behalf during the conversation. And, we will learn from each conversation. Every call, meeting, or chat will make the next one better.
Building and running services at scale for Microsoft 365 for hundreds of million consumer and enterprise users is very challenging, but it is a lot of fun and rewarding. We are looking for smart, passionate engineers at many levels to help us do just that to power and deliver on IC3 mission. This opportunity will allow you to make a broad positive impact across many critical IC3 domains such as chat, audio/video calling, meetings, service and data engineering, and service management.

Responsibilities
- Collaborates with stakeholders to understand user needs and define features for different scenarios
- Designs and builds distributed services that are secure, scalable, reliable, and performant, using best practices and technologies
- Writes and improves code that is high-quality, performant, resilient, and maintainable, using various tools and techniques
- Defines and measures customer success metrics and engineering goals, and ensures that the services meet and exceed them
- Drives cross-product features and project plans, leveraging subject-matter expertise and partnering with appropriate stakeholders, such as project managers and technical leaders
- Integrates with other teams to create seamless and consistent end-to-end experiences for customers while mentoring others along the way
- Identifies and resolves performance and reliability issues across hardware and software boundaries, using performance and profiling tools

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience
- 6+ years engineering experience with highly scalable cloud services
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience
- Demonstrated track records of working with large teams shipping and evolving large-scale cloud services
- Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines and drive both technical and product results
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per
