About the Role:

Are you ready to take the helm in safeguarding our intellectual property (IP) and steering data privacy initiatives? At Klöckner Pentaplast (kp), we are seeking a dynamic Senior Legal Counsel to lead our IP and Data Privacy efforts. This role is pivotal in aligning our IP strategy with our business objectives and driving the implementation of innovative IP solutions. You will work closely with our business division leadership and kp group senior management to protect and enhance our IP assets while ensuring data privacy compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• IP Strategy Development: Develop and implement strategies for IP protection that align with the organization’s strategic business objectives.
• IP Portfolio Management: Manage the organization’s IP portfolio, including the filing and prosecution of patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
• IP Risk Management: Identify potential IP risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• IP Litigation Support: Provide support in IP litigation cases, including infringement analysis and defense strategies.
• IP Legal Spend Supervision: Select, instruct and supervise external IP counsel and control external IP legal spend.
• Data Privacy Supervision: Be the point of contact and provide and/or coordinate the legal support to the kp group on Data Privacy matters.

 

Qualifications:

• Education: Technical undergraduate degree (preferably in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science), JD degree, and admission in good standing to a bar in at least one U.S. state.
• Experience:
  • 10-15+ years of IP attorney experience with substantial IP-related transactions.
  • In-house experience, managing outside counsel, and IP workflows.
  • Experience with IP contested proceedings and strong expertise in IP-related agreements.
  • Technological aptitude and willingness to learn and support data privacy matters.
  • Experience in manufacturing/chemicals/pharmaceuticals/plastics or related sectors.
