Overview:

Responsible for supporting the Marketing efforts of the Equity Sponsor Group and supporting the credit approval and execution processes of Financial Sponsors Group sourced Leveraged Loans.  Responsible for credit analysis on Private Equity (PE) Firm/Fund and assist with Credit Reporting/Analysis on the PE Portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Supports the development of relationships with Private Equity Firms which both invest in Middle Market businesses in the M&T footprint & operate within M&T’s risk tolerance parameters to source loan opportunities for the Commercial Bank.
• Research PE Firms to expand our database of targeted firms, focusing on PE investment, industry and geography and financing structure.
• Prepare financial analysis to support the Relationship Management team engaged in a PE sponsored loan transaction.
• Maintain and update PE Firms database.
• Assist the Director, VP & the Relationship Management Team in all stages of the loan opportunity from initial expression of interest to closing.
• Assist the Director, VP in PE Firm/Fund Analysis, Credit Reporting/Analytics.
• Attend Management Meetings with the Line.

• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Works with limited supervision from the Equity Sponsor Director, VP and Credit.

Position entails interaction with internal and external clients.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in Commercial Banking or a related field (Investment Banking, Leveraged Lending, Credit Underwriting), or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including 5 years’ work experience in Commercial Banking or a related field.

Advanced computer skills and strong knowledge of pertinent database and presentation software.

Highly proficient in the use of financial spreadsheets with a working knowledge of financial modeling.

Education and Experience Preferred:

MBA and 3 years previous work experience in Commercial Banking or a related field (Investment Banking, Leveraged Lending, Credit Underwriting).

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $102,939.06 - $171,565.10 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
