Job Description:

Highly skilled Plumber/Pipefitter Master to oversee and perform complex plumbing and pipefitting tasks in a commercial setting. This position requires a high expertise in installing, maintaining, and repairing piping system and also ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal plumbing codes. The Plumber/Pipefitter Master will also lead and mentor junior staff, ensuing high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards. This position will be stationed at the Vet Medicine hospital at Louisiana State University.

Job Responsibilities

Repair, troubleshoot, modify, and maintain Vet Medicine piping systems: including high/low pressure steam, high/low pressure condensate, sanitary sewer, compressed air, chilled water supply/return, domestic hot/cold water, storm water, and heating water supply/return. Work skills include fabrication, installation, and repair of different piping materials including cast iron, steel, copper, plastic (pvc, e, hdpe, etc.) to above and below ground systems. (20%)

Coordinate with external contractors and third-party vendors and suppliers for specialized plumbing projects. Provide oversight to supplemental labor maintenance contracts. (20%)

Implement preventative maintenance schedules for all plumbing systems. Respond promptly to emergency plumbing issues to minimize disruptions to hospital operations. Keep records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance. (20%)

Ensure proper functioning of critical veterinary equipment, including surgical sinks, autoclaves, hydrotherapy units, and oxygen delivery systems. Diagnose and troubleshoot issues such as leaks, low water pressure, clogged drains, and backflow problems. Repair and maintain plumbing components such as faucets, sinks, toilets, and water heaters (20%)

Ensure all plumbing work complies with local, state, and federal plumbing and safety codes. Maintain sanitary conditions, preventing contamination in water and medical gas systems (Oxygen and vacuum piping). Follow OSHA and environmental health standards to ensure safe water disposal and infection control. Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential plumbing hazards. (10%)

Operate boiler room equipment, running steam generators and hot water heaters, starting/stopping chiller equipment, cooling towers and circulating pumps. Monitor and record operating conditions and make adjustments as necessary. Perform basic maintenance, adjusting belts, tightening flanges, fixing gauge glasses, etc. These job duties will be on a shift coverage basis only, as needed. Other duties as assigned (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Three years of experience or training in pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing.
