  • We are hiring immediately for a full time LICENSED JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN position.
  • Location: TAMU - 600 Agronomy Road, College Station, TX 77843. Note: online applications accepted only.
  • Schedule: Full time schedule. Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. More details upon interview. 
  • Requirement: Valid Driver's License and Journeyman Electrician License required.
  • Pay Range: $25.00 per hour to $28.00 per hour

Job Summary

Summary: The Journeyman Electrician performs skilled electrical work, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in a university or commercial setting. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of electrical infrastructure to support the facility's daily operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, circuit breakers, electrical panels, and wiring.
  • Diagnose electrical issues and perform repairs using appropriate tools, techniques, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems to identify hazards, malfunctions, or inefficiencies.
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, and wiring diagrams to plan electrical installations and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Lead or assist in special electrical projects, including new construction, building upgrades, and campus renovations.
  • Install and maintain emergency power systems, including backup generators and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment to minimize downtime and prolong system life.
  • Respond to emergency electrical issues and provide quick and effective solutions.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting for complex systems and make repairs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including maintenance logs, materials used, and project completion times.
  • Install and maintain campus-wide energy management and lighting control systems for efficiency and sustainability.
  • Oversee and conduct annual electrical safety audits and inspections to ensure all systems meet safety standards.
  • Work with other departments or external contractors to complete electrical installations, upgrades, or repairs.
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of specialized electrical systems, such as laboratory or medical equipment.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior electricians and other maintenance staff on electrical systems and safety procedures.
  • Perform arc flash studies and take appropriate action to mitigate electrical hazards.
  • Ensure all electrical systems in labs, kitchens, and dormitories meet regulatory requirements and function efficiently.

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician License issued by the State.
  • Electrical experience in an institutional or commercial setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in using electrical tools, diagnostic equipment, and technology.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and specifications.
