Description
AVITA Medical is a regenerative medicine company leading the development and commercialization of devices and autologous cellular therapies for skin restoration. Our FDA-approved RECELL System technology platform treats patients with thermal burn wounds and full-thickness skin defects and is used for re-pigmentation of stable depigmented vitiligo lesions by harnessing the regenerative properties of a patients’ own skin to create Spray-on Skin cells.
Position Summary:
The Director of Market Access is a pivotal team member within AVITA Medical, leading efforts to develop and execute comprehensive reimbursement and health economic strategies to ensure patient access to AVITA Medical’s product portfolio. This position reports to the VP of Health Economics and Market Access and collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive favorable coverage policies and reimbursement outcomes globally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development and implementation of reimbursement strategies and health economic initiatives to support product access and market growth.
- Identify payer, provider, and patient opportunities and barriers; implement programs to increase product adoption.
- Provide advanced reimbursement and health economic training and support to AVITA Medical’s sales organization and external stakeholders, including hospitals, clinicians, and professional societies.
- Lead efforts to navigate and align stakeholders in coding and reimbursement processes, including CPT and Medicare payment rules.
- Provide strategic oversight of product value demonstration and evidence generation, maximizing health economics outcomes and developing value dossiers with Medical Affairs.
- Monitor and educate on industry trends, regulatory changes, and payer policies impacting reimbursement and commercial goals.
- Collaborate with the Clinical team to integrate market access and payer perspectives into product development and clinical plans.
- Provide input on market access strategies, including Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and health economics, for international markets.
Requirements
- Travel: Up to 15% or as needed.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in healthcare finance, medical device market access, health economics, or a related field
- Experience in a medical device company, preferably with involvement in emerging medical device technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, health economics, health policy, healthcare finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Master’s or other advanced degree is preferred.
- Strong understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer policies.
- Knowledgeable in outpatient and inpatient coding (APC, MS-DRG, ICD-10), physician coding (CPT, HCPCS), Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer issues.
- Extensive knowledge of reimbursement across all sites of service including physician office reimbursement, hospital outpatient, inpatient facility, and ambulatory surgical centers.
- Proven success in developing and executing reimbursement strategies for new medical device technologies and indications.
- Ability to effectively communicate and translate complex economic and reimbursement concepts into understandable and actionable information to AVITA Medical's team, leaders, and customers.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills – written, verbal and interpersonal.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and agility, adept at executing effective reimbursement strategies and navigating healthcare market complexities.
- Strong critical thinking skills and a focus on execution.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Salesforce, Excel, Power Point, and Word applications.
